Often times, people could also watch them being used as a props in the movie usually sci-fi type of movies or even in video games where guns, militaries and vigilantes are involved. But these are real items that could really be used in the night. With the help of night goggles, whoever uses this can see up to 60 miles away. Although it is used by the military force, night goggles have been made available for public also.

 How do the Night Goggles Work?

Night goggles works depending on the technology used. This could either be a thermal imaging or an image enhancement. Differentiating the two would help you understand how these night goggles are used in the dark.

  1. Thermal Imaging

Every living object emits some amount of thermal heat and in thermal imaging a heat coming from an object is detected by the special lens and shown in an infrared light spectrum or in bright colors. The intensity of the infrared emitted will deter the quality of the image. If you are looking for a human, this kind of gadget is right for you to use because it emits heat. Try directing it to a tree and you would notice nothing because light is not used.

  1. Image Enhancement

This kind of goggles uses light in order for it to work. A conventional lens is used to capture the infrared radiation thus the gathered light is sent to an image intensifier tube converting the light into the screen as a green image. Whether it is a strong or a very weak kind of light, it can still be identified easily as to what it is because this kind of gadget amplifies the light in order for us to discern the image and observe it.

 When was the First Night Goggles Used?

During the World War II, military took a hard time keeping their country and selves safe. They can’t see if a force is coming to attack that is how the night goggles were invented and first used into action.  It was invented by William Spicer of Stanford University when he discovered that equipment can read the radiation levels of an object. He then modified this equipment into a wearable goggles to avoid hassle in to the user from holding it.

 When can Night Goggles be used?

During the war, the sole purpose of the goggles were to locate their enemies but due to the wide availability of night goggles in the market today, it can now be used in hunting, wildlife observation, surveillance, security or even for entertainment. Interestingly, one can now enjoy their lives until the darkest days of their lives literally with the help of such innovation in technology.
